CareTech Solutions Completes Seamless Migration of Port Huron Hospital’s Data Center in 36 Hours

Port Huron Hospital Cites CareTech’s Commitment to Advance Project Planning and
Multifaceted Stakeholder Communications as Key to Migration’s Success

PORT HURON, Mich. – October 20, 2008 – CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) services provider for hospitals and health systems, today announced it completed the migration of Port Huron Hospital’s data center to its Troy, Michigan headquarters, transferring the provision of service from the hospital’s previous IT provider. Hospital officials credit the success of the landmark 36-hour migration project to CareTech’s commitment to advance project planning and communication to all hospital stakeholders throughout the project’s duration.

“To successfully migrate Port Huron Hospital’s data center over the course of the Labor Day weekend speaks to CareTech’s experience and commitment to customer service, anticipating users’ concerns, and taking steps to address those concerns before they became problematic,” said John Liston, chief financial officer and vice president, finance with Port Huron Hospital. “Despite long hours and an intense overall work schedule, CareTech exceeded our expectations by not only completing the project on time with little to no disruption, but also protecting our data while in transit and speeding our access to our data once our system was up and running.”

CareTech’s preparation for the data center migration project began in May 2008, when its more than 20-member implementation team met weekly with executive staff, and with Port Huron Hospital’s marketing team. Together they executed a multifaceted project communication strategy that included a centrally located “command center” devoted to issue identification and resolution, nursing staff who served as “issue liaisons” between physicians and IT staff, the establishment of hotlines to implementation team members working in critical hospital locations, and software vendors whose applications depended upon the data center’s operation.

“In the 24×7 operating environment of the hospital setting, physicians, staff and patients can’t afford to be without access to critical health information,” said Eric Foote, chief technical architect with CareTech Solutions, and lead on the data center migration project. “CareTech has always stressed communication and planning as the cornerstones of successful IT initiatives, and we thank Port Huron Hospital for its commitment to helping us ensure the project’s success.”

CareTech Solutions’ migration of approximately 80 Port Huron Hospital servers to its Troy, Michigan headquarters began just after midnight on Saturday, August 30, and substantially concluded the evening of Monday, September 1, with go-live occurring the morning of Tuesday, September 2. CareTech Solutions’ migration approach included protecting and transporting the hospital’s equipment and supporting infrastructure; rebuilding the hospital’s existing Citrix server farm to enable quicker and more efficient application operation and data access; full help desk support, and thorough testing and adjustments to address end-user issues and confirm efficient, effective and accurate operation of the hospital’s technology.

CareTech’s work in completing Port Huron Hospital’s data center migration is part of a comprehensive IT outsourcing contract with Port Huron Hospital that began last month. Under the terms of the agreement, CareTech Solutions provides the hospital with complete IT infrastructure outsourcing, help desk services, and support of the hospital’s applications, data center operations, desktop computing environment, network and telecommunications over the next five years. In addition, CareTech Solutions is responsible for developing the hospital’s information systems strategic plan.

“Port Huron Hospital’s data center migration is the first step in a strategic, multifaceted effort to provide the hospital, its leaders, its staff and its patients with technology that meets and exceeds the hospital’s productivity and patient care objectives,” said Jim Giordano, president and CEO of CareTech Solutions. “We thank Port Huron Hospital for its partnership, and we look forward to an extraordinary relationship and exceptional results.”
