CareTech Solutions, Inc. Consulting Practice Facilitates Centralized Scheduling Process for Northern Michigan Regional Health System

Southfield, MI – January 10, 2001 – Northern Michigan Regional Health System (NMRHS) of Petoskey, Michigan, is centralizing its scheduling process and has contracted with CareTech Solutions Consulting Practice to facilitate the project.

The consulting group assisted NMRHS in evaluating products and services, selecting the enterprise scheduling application – Encompass by Tempus – and developing a long-range project plan to meet the hospital’s strategic goals.

The consulting group has also been contracted to facilitate the activity of a second phase – documenting current scheduling processes and assisting hospital staff in business process redesign. Also included in phase two are tasks to coordinate education and cross-train NMRHS’s staff to centralized scheduling functions.

“The goal is to centralize the scheduling of direct patient service areas, including all modalities in imaging and outpatient services,” said Kathy Beyer, Manager of Patient Registration at NMRHS. “The current decentralized process makes it difficult for physician offices to schedule outpatient appointments. We plan to have one phone number for all in-hospital, patient appointments.”

According to Lou Kress, CareTech Solutions Senior Healthcare Consultant, NMRHS plans to provide functionality to multi-tasked resources providing a “one-stop” point of entry for all outpatient visits to hospital-based clinics. The hospital’s ultimate goal is to provide functions of registration, scheduling, insurance verifications, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-required consent documentation, and condition-specific patient education from within a central unit.

The Consulting Practice recently completed IT Strategic Planning activities for Northern Michigan Regional Health System in Petoskey, Michigan and Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals, Inc. CareTech Solutions, Inc. and Health Solutions Plus, Inc. Partner to Offer Browser-Based Workflow Automation Suite of Tools

Southfield, Mich. – October 31, 2001 – CareTech Solutions, Inc., the healthcare affiliate of Compuware Corporation, and Health Solutions Plus, Inc. (HSP), a provider of enterprise-wide healthcare payer solutions, announced a partnership that strengthens their ability to reduce costs associated with healthcare administration for payors.

“HSP’s vision is to provide a suite of tools connected via a banking (ATM) transaction layer in a browser-based format to communicate (track and store) with disparate systems on a variety of Information Technology (IT) platforms. Our years of banking and brokerage transaction development have allowed us to bring a fresh look at old problems challenging the healthcare industry,” said John Buser, HSP’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

According to Dr. Don Maes, CareTech Solutions Vice President, Consulting Services, “CareTech Solutions helps their healthcare clients operate their IT departments more efficiently by reducing IT and administrative costs. HSP’s tools will enable CareTech Solutions to deliver more complete hospital and health plan business solutions.”

HSP’s transaction processor tool normalizes data from disparage systems and mediums (Internet, IVR, phone, fax, paper) and creates a unique transaction indexed to a member, provider and partner(s) for retrieval. The transaction processor includes user-defined workflows to route the transaction to the next step in the operation. Because the tools are browser-based, anyone within the LAN/WAN or on the Internet can pick up the administrative next step. Each step is logged as a transaction. While the transaction processor is performing these functions, it is receiving and transmitting transaction information with many third-party software solutions.
