CareTech Solutions announces Health Information Management services offering

Best practices coupled with advanced medical records management technologies improve services and reduce costs

Troy, Mich. — February 23, 2004 — CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) outsourcing company for hospitals and health systems, has announced a distinct offering for Health Information Management (HIM) consultation and outsourcing services. Through this new service offering CareTech will be able to provide clients management of HIM department operations, process re-engineering and improvement, and electronic medical record (EMR) implementations.

“The addition of HIM services is a natural extension of CareTech’s healthcare outsourcing capabilities,” said James Giordano, president and chief executive officer for CareTech Solutions. “We are committed to providing our clients with gold-standard HIM services that contribute to improved patient care while lowering healthcare costs.”

HIM outsourcing is recognized throughout the industry as a viable strategy for improving access to health information while reducing associated costs. Two key components of contemporary HIM department strategy are process re-engineering and, in some instances, implementation of medical records technology such as an electronic medical record. CareTech Solutions has the distinction of combining its network of HIM and IT resources to assist in efforts to implement the EMR, including product selection, defining HIM and end user functional requirements, and project management to facilitate a smooth, phased transition into the EMR

In some environments, implementation of an EMR program can be crucial to improve the timeliness and availability of health information by providing simultaneous, real-time access to information, and facilitating HIPAA compliance. Potential benefits of EMR implementation include:

  • Improved patient care, physician and customer satisfaction, resource allocation, HIM workflow and increased productivity
  • Reduced operating expenses
  • Greater cash flow resulting from a reduction in accounts receivable, and
  • Increased return on EMR investment when coordinated with HIM process reengineering.

From both a consulting and outsourcing perspective, CareTech’s comprehensive experience and knowledge of healthcare operations and healthcare IT ensures that medical records data requirements are managed in a cost-effective manner.

CareTech Solutions Announces Momentum for Help Desk Services Excellence

IT services provider achieves STI Knowledge “team certified” status; designation provides further evidence of CareTech’s industry-leading service

Troy, Mich. — May 13, 2004 — CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) services outsourcing provider for hospitals and health systems, announced today that its Shared Services Resolution Center has achieved “team certified” status through STI Knowledge Inc., an education and certification group that specializes in call centers. CareTech is the first company to receive this award. “Achieving STI’s ‘team certified’ designation provides further evidence of CareTech’s commitment to delivering industry-leading help desk service,” said Patrick Milostan, CareTech Solutions’ chief technology officer. “I’m very pleased that the ongoing investments we’ve made in our Shared Services Resolutions Center are resulting in a positive impact to customer service.”

CareTech’s Resolution Center achieved STI’s ‘team certified’ designation through an e-learning program that has enabled over 90 percent of CareTech’s Resolution Center professionals to become certified professionals.

The Shared Services Resolution Center serves as a single point of contact for all of CareTech’s customers. A comprehensive Knowledge Database leads to high first-call resolution rates.

Of the “within scope” calls, the combination of CareTech’s technology and process has enabled the CareTech help desk team to maintain an average first-call resolution rate of over 90 percent, leading to productivity gains and cost efficiencies for CareTech’s customers.

Additionally, support techniques such as Proactive Monitoring allows CareTech technicians to identify systems issues and address them before the client experiences a failure.

Using an industry-recognized methodology from www.blueprintaudits.com, the firm determined that CareTech’s help desk ranked in the ‘advanced’ quadrant, scoring significantly above industry average.

CareTech Solutions currently employs approximately 36 professionals from its Troy-based Shared Services Resolution Center who support IT services across several states through outsourcing contracts with over 23 hospitals and their affiliated networks.

CareTech Solutions Speeds Hospital’s Adoption of State-of-the-Art Technology

Implementation of PACS, new network infrastructure enhances North Oakland Medical Centers’ patient care, productivity, and cost efficiency

Troy, Mich. — July 19, 2004 — CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) services outsourcing provider for hospitals and health systems, announced today that it has completed the first phase of a comprehensive technology upgrade for North Oakland Medical Centers (NOMC) in Pontiac, Mich. The rapid implementation of this technology set, which includes a picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) installation, enables the healthcare system to offer patients and clinicians a broader array of patient services enhancing NOMC’s position as a provider of advanced clinical care. “Through our relationship with CareTech we have been able to markedly accelerate the realization of our IT vision which is tightly linked with our strategic objectives for enhanced clinical care,” said Robert Davis, North Oakland Medical Center’s Chief Executive Officer. “The introduction of state-of-the-art technologies in this first phase has resulted in a positive impact on patient care, patient and clinician satisfaction and the overall health of our organization.”

To provide a solid foundation for the technology advancements at NOMC, CareTech conducted a technology assessment and completed an infrastructure upgrade. New high-speed network technology, including wireless connectivity, was installed throughout the main hospital in Pontiac and its adjoining buildings to support new information systems that required a higher performance level. The centers are now benefiting from increased throughput.

CareTech also assisted North Oakland Medical Centers in selecting an affordable and needs-appropriate PACS solution that would improve radiologist and physician workflow. Following this installation, significant cost reductions and efficiency improvements are expected as film printing is gradually eliminated and images are read from compatible modalities.

To better communicate the center’s services and strengths to the communities it serves, CareTech worked collaboratively with NOMC marketing department resources to develop an enhanced Web site. A current, industry-standard e-mail system and directory structure were also implemented to provide additional functionality for North Oakland Medical Centers staff.

In order to allow physicians to review and sign transcribed documents via the Internet, CareTech managed the replacement of a non-supported voice management system and the upgrade of a DOS-based transcription and documentation management system – which also interfaced with the health information system and PACS to streamline workflow.

“North Oakland Medical Center has made significant strides towards utilizing technology to positively impact patient care,” said Pat Milostan, vice president and chief technology officer for CareTech Solutions. “We look forward to working with North Oakland Medical Center on completing the next phase of their strategic IT plan.”

CareTech Solutions Initiates Third Phase of Crittenton Hospital Medical Center’s Adoption of Advanced Health Information Technology

Troy, Mich. — October 18, 2004 — CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) outsourcing provider for hospitals and health systems, announced today that it has initiated the third phase of an implementation of Cerner products intended to support quality initiatives at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) in Rochester, Mich. CHMC fully outsourced its IT services and staffing requirements to CareTech in June of 2003.

“The launch of the third phase of the clinical information system implementation is a significant milepost in our strategic IT plan. By entrusting our information technology goals to CareTech, we’ve been able to use technology to drive innovation in the delivery of quality patient care, which is at the heart of CHMC’s mission,” said Lynn Orfgen, Crittenton Hospital Medical Center’s president and chief executive officer. “CareTech’s team rapidly delivered the first two phases of this implementation, which yielded impressive results including greatly enhanced capabilities, reduced costs and higher patient and clinician satisfaction levels.”

CareTech is leading the third phase of the Cerner implementation, which is a significant initiative for CHMC as the project includes a complete system upgrade, implementation of online order entry in Cerner, increased online documentation and the implementation of Cerner Physician Order Entry (CPOE). The applications will be phased in over the 2005 calendar year.

In the first phase, Crittenton chose to engage CareTech’s resources and implementation experience to reinvigorate a project to bring the radiology, laboratory and pharmacy departments live on the Cerner product. During this phase, CareTech also greatly improved the performance and stability of Crittenton’s picture archiving and communication system (PACS), previously considered unsatisfactory by the CHMC radiology team.

The recently completed second phase involved the roll out of PowerChart, Cerner’s enterprise-wide, multi-facility, multi-entity and longitudinal electronic medical record (EMR), as well as the installation of the Cerner scheduling products. The implementation of the EMR application provided the CHMC clinical team with online access across the medical center to laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and transcribed results. The scheduling project migrated departments that were working on legacy and/or paper-based systems to an automated system that supports a centralized scheduling process.

The implementation process included intensive training for all user groups, including more than 700 CHMC employees, 150 physicians and their office staffs. CareTech’s experience in educating clinical teams and providing customized training tools and a variety of training modalites helped ensure organizational adoption of new applications.

“Crittenton Hospital Medical Center is executing on a strategic vision to utilize state-of-the-art technology to enhance the quality of patient care, while lowering costs,” said Pat Milostan, vice president and chief technology officer for CareTech Solutions. “We look forward to leveraging our expertise with the Cerner product line to significantly increase the speed and lower the cost of this implementation.”
