CareTech Solutions Launches New Brand Campaign

“Applied Intelligence” focuses on hands-on IT expertise in the hospital industry

Troy, Mich. – May 2, 2005 — CareTech Solutions, Inc., an information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) outsourcing company for hospitals and health systems today announced the launch of its new “Applied Intelligence” brand campaign, designed to convey the company’s ability to administer a hands-on approach for developing customized information technology (IT) management solutions specific to the needs of health care providers. The first major brand campaign of its kind since CareTech Solutions began operations in 1998, features the new “Applied Intelligence” tagline and an associated advertising campaign, which will be predominantly executed through print and industry event sponsorship.

“From a branding perspective, we were looking for a concept that captured the spirit of our commitment to help our customers improve performance across the entire patient data lifecycle,” said James Giordano, president and CEO of CareTech Solutions. “We saw the flexibility ‘Applied Intelligence’ provides for numerous executions throughout CareTech’s marketing efforts, while still accurately representing the company’s core commitment to creating value for healthcare clients through customized, flexible outsourcing solutions that contribute to improving patient care while lowering healthcare costs.”

The first execution of the new campaign will target senior hospital administrators, such as CEOs and CFOs, in the form of advertisements and issues-based advertorials. All advertising executions will underscore that CareTech, as the only major IT outsourcing provider focused exclusively on the hospital industry, brings hands-on experience with the industry’s most current IT systems and products to small and mid-size hospitals, who may be unable to fully realize the benefits of their current IT investments due to a lack of either human or financial capital resources.

“We are excited to introduce ‘Applied Intelligence;’ it is a vision and reminder to those we serve, as well as our employees, that CareTech’s business model differs significantly from alternative offerings in the marketplace, such as consulting firms and one-size-fits-all outsourcing organizations,” said Giordano.

CareTech’s “Applied Intelligence” brand campaign in being launched in conjunction with the American Hospital Association’s annual membership meeting, taking place in Washington DC, May 1-4. The campaign was developed collaboratively by Detroit-based Airfoil Public Relations and Royal Oak, Mich-based Group-eX, a consortium of marketing communications and advertising creative resources.

CareTech Solutions Improves Healthcare Technology Assessment Process with CareNavigator™

Software application tool provides accurate, meaningful assessment of the performance of healthcare organizations’ current technology investments

Troy, Mich. – May 2, 2005 — CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) outsourcing company for hospitals and health systems, unveiled today its CareNavigator™ system, an application assessment tool CareTech has developed that provides healthcare executives with an easy-to-interpret visual dashboard charting the performance of an organization’s software applications and infrastructure.

“The CareNavigator dashboard provided us an at-a-glance view of our entire application portfolio that detailed which applications are returning value while showing us which applications need attention. We plan on using the dashboard to map our IT strategy for the next several years”, said Gary Ley, CEO at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, MI.

The CareNavigator system analyzes the performance and utilization of current technology investments within the hospital, while significantly shortening the on-site assessment process. CareTech Solutions’ analysts work with IT and department staff in each area of the hospital to answer an established set of quality indicators that rates an applications’ effectiveness. Responses are immediately tabulated and plotted on a metered color-coded scale. The scale indicates the application’s current use and return to the operations of each department. The executive suite will find this easy to read application assessment a valuable tool in understanding the entire portfolio of software applications that their IT departments are managing.

“As the healthcare industry increasingly moves more information systems into a digital format, it becomes evermore crucial to ensure the right technology is in place for hospitals and healthcare systems to access that data,” said CareTech Solutions Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Patrick Milostan. “CareTech’s CareNavigator system accelerates a process that used to take weeks, allowing our customers to obtain the necessary intelligence on which to base their business decisions within a matter of days.”

Once the analysis is completed, the CareNavigator dashboard provides healthcare executives with a straightforward overview of the performance of software applications currently in place, as well as recommendations on which technology should be kept in place and which should be upgraded for increased organizational efficiency, cost reductions, and patient satisfaction.

Ferrell brings more than 20 years of sales experience to CareTech. He has held several key management positions including regional vice president at one of the world’s largest suppliers of diagnostic equipment and information technology solutions to the healthcare industry. “Miracle of Life” Webcast Allows Marine in Iraq to Witness Birth

CareTech Solutions to Help Mount Clemens General Hospital Staff Bring Detroit-Area Couple Together for Delivery of First Child

Mount Clemens, Mich – June 30, 2005 – The miracle of life and the miracle of technology are about to merge to create a Webcast “bundle of joy” for U.S. Marine Sgt. Peter Boucher and his wife Stacy.

Sgt. Boucher, 26, an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, is currently stationed in Iraq and is anxiously waiting the birth of the couple’s first child. The child is expected to be delivered sometime Friday, July 1 at Mount Clemens General Hospital (MCGH), in Mount Clemens, Michigan.

Usually, a long-distance phone line would have to suffice to communicate the good news but through a live Webcast, Sgt. Boucher will be able to witness the birth as it happens, allowing him to be as close as possible to Stacy and baby.

“The last time he saw me was at 25 weeks so this is the first time he’ll see me with the big belly, the first time in 19 weeks,” said Stacy Boucher. “With him being so far away, he’s nervous, scared and excited. We’re both very excited. Without him actually being here, I guess this (the Webcast) is the next best thing,” she said.

The idea for the Webcast came from Stacy’s labor and delivery coach, who heard about one being transmitted between Michigan and Florida.

The Webcast is made possible through the cooperative efforts of OB/GYN physician Thomas Zima, DO, Mount Clemens General Hospital Family Birthing Center, and CareTech Solutions. CareTech provides IT services to MCGH and is responsible for setting up the Webcam and coordinating the technical communications.

The delivery is scheduled to take place at MCGH sometime Friday or later. “There is no predicting when it will occur,” said Dr. Zima. “We’re inducing labor and it can happen anytime.”

Dr. Zima is happy that the young couple will be able to visually communicate during the birth.

“I think it’s great that we can help one of our soldiers in Iraq. My son was a Marine captain helicopter pilot and I personally take pride in being able to support our troops,” he said.

“The Army and Marines are handling the Web connection in Iraq, “ said Joseph Esdale, operations & production support, manager for CareTech Solutions, a company providing information services for Mount Clemens General Hospital. “On this end, we installed the Webcam in the labor and deliver suite and verified that the connection to Iraq will transmit correctly over the Internet.”

The Boucher family resides in Clinton Township, Michigan.

Blanchard Valley Health Association recognized as one of the nation’s Most Wired hospitals

CareTech Solutions assists Ohio health system in achieving top 100 status for effective use of IT for clinical and operational excellence

Troy, Mich. – July 12, 2005 – Blanchard Valley Health Association (BVHA), an independent regional health services organization for Northwest Ohio, has been named one of the nation’s 2005 Most Wired hospital and health systems by Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association. This sixth-annual survey and benchmarking study measured the nation’s healthcare systems on the effective use of information technology (IT) in achieving clinical and operational excellence.

“We’re thrilled to be recognized by the Most Wired survey as one of the nation’s most wired health systems, and to share some of our best practices with the healthcare industry,” said Blanchard Valley Health Association President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Malaney. “CareTech has helped us put the right information tools in place to increase our clinicians’ productivity and flexibility, which we believe helps allow us to provide the highest quality care and services for our patients.”

In 2003, BVHA selected CareTech Solutions, a Michigan-based provider of comprehensive healthcare IT and health information management, to serve as its IT provider. BVHA leverages CareTech’s expertise through comprehensive service offerings, including data center and network operating center services, 24x7x365 help desk services, applications management, telecommunications, administrative support and staff management.

Since 1999, Hospitals & Health Networks has surveyed the nation’s hospitals on their use of information technology to accomplish key goals. The Most Wired survey and benchmarking study measures hospital’s use of IT for quality, customer service, public health and safety, business processes and workforce issues. Based on a detailed scoring process, the magazine annually names the 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems. This year, 502 surveys were submitted, representing 1,255 hospitals.

“Flexibility and mobility drive Blanchard Valley’s IT processes,” said Blanchard Valley Health Association Chief Information Officer Annette Elchert. “These technology implementations allow our clinicians to access the information they need – in or out of the hospital setting – to offer a better patient experience.”

The nation’s 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems – those that have invested significantly in health information technology – have lower mortality rates than other hospitals, according to results of the 2005 Most Wired survey. While the new survey does not establish a “cause and effect” relationship between information technology use and improved outcomes, it demonstrates that technology can play an important role in quality.

According to an outcomes analysis conducted for the magazine by independent healthcare business intelligence company Solucient, the 100 Most Wired hospitals have, on average, risk-adjusted mortality rates that are 7.2 percent lower than other hospitals, even after controlling for the size of the hospital and teaching status.

“This is the first analysis showing that the nation’s top tech hospitals also have better outcomes,” said Hospitals & Health Networks Executive Editor Alden Solovy. The analysis compared mortality results for the 2005 list of Most Wired with the rest of the nation, although Solovy cautions that the analysis does not establish a causal relationship between IT and outcomes.

Hospitals & Health Networks conducted the 2005 survey in cooperation with Accenture, IDX Systems Corporation and the College of Healthcare Information Management (CHIME). The July Hospitals & Health Networks cover story detailing results of the survey is available at www.hhnmag.com.

CareTech Solutions Launches Web Services Offering for Hospitals and Healthcare Systems

Distinct offering represents hospital IT management firm’s turnkey Web capabilities and ongoing commitment to meeting customer need

Troy, Mich. – July 28, 2005 – CareTech Solutions, Inc., a healthcare information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) outsourcing company, has announced the launch of WebCare™, a distinct service offering supporting hospitals and healthcare systems’ online capabilities. The new offering is one of a growing number of distinct services developed by CareTech to support the strategic vision of its clients.

WebCare provides customized solutions and support for hospitals’ internal and external online presence, from simple front end Web sites to complex secure healthcare portals, and from content management systems to centralized physician resource centers and e-commerce applications that can be accessed by patients and network affiliates. Various operation levels allow each client to choose the amount of site support required; WebCare’s offerings can be hosted and maintained by CareTech, or implemented at client sites.

“Today’s hospitals are increasingly using technology to enhance both the patient and clinician’s experience, building rapport and encouraging loyalty with two critical audiences,” said CareTech Solutions President and Chief Executive Officer James Giordano. “CareTech’s WebCare offering is dedicated to meeting those objectives and reflects our customer’s desire to differentiate their organization through technology.”

WebCare’s turnkey, Web-based products and services reduce cost and improve efficiency, communication and productivity. Its group communications resource provides hospital clinicians or independent physician groups with a centralized, permission-based, password-protected resource that is fully accessible from any Internet connection. Portals provide quick, easy and secure access to such critical data as financial figures, legal and legislative updates and professional education opportunities, as well as secured forums and bulletin board postings for group communication. Group users are able to retrieve the most current information from anywhere, freeing up time to meet with patients and greatly reducing information inconsistency and legal liabilities by providing round-the-clock access to the most recent healthcare findings.

CareTech’s Web services benefit the patient community as well. From interactive registration modules and secure portals to view consultation information, to online bill payment, WebCare’s products and services help providers keep patients better informed and in control of their own health.

“When physicians and patients are better connected, each is able to utilize their time more efficiently and communicate more effectively, helping to improve the quality of care,” said CareTech Solutions WebCare Director Christopher Catallo. “With the addition of our Web services offering, now more than ever, CareTech provides the technology and support for hospitals to offer the highest level of patient care possible, in the most efficient and cost-effective ways possible.”

In addition to WebCare and its core offering of information technology management, CareTech offers health information management (HIM) services including medical records management; EMR planning and implementation; Coding and Case Mix Index analysis; transcription management; staffing; release of information; HIPAA compliance audits and JCAHO/HFAP readiness assessments; and CableCare™, structured cabling services to connect voice, data and wireless equipment, including complete structure cabling system planning, coordination of planning and implementation, installation and ongoing support.
