Online Group Communications Resource Introduced for Physicians

CareTech’s MediCom Central gains steam on ability to allow physicians, administrators and other hospital personnel to share and post information

Troy, Mich. – Feb. 13, 2005 – Finally, there is one powerful application that can be employed at many levels of the healthcare organization giving physician groups, clinical departments, boards of directors and administrative teams the ability to streamline communications and better organize information, quickly and efficiently. Health care professionals who are challenged by the way in which new information is currently delivered are increasingly able to access up-to-the-minute information from any location, thanks to an online group communications resource developed by CareTech Solutions. The company publicly launched the offering in conjunction with the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Meeting, taking place this week in San Diego.

Since piloting the solution, called MediCom Central, within its existing customer base, the product has received an extraordinary reception with a high percentage of customers electing to adopt the technology. The technology was developed by CareTech’s WebCare™ team, a service offering designed to support hospitals and healthcare systems’ online capabilities.

For physician groups, MediCom can provide immediate, secure access to such crucial information as medical journals, health plan provider information, compliance data, meeting schedules and agendas, department calendars, professional education opportunities and more. Other key hospital groups, such as boards of directors, can gain rapid access to previous meeting minutes, meeting agendas, annual reports, strategic planning documents, financial data, legal and legislative updates, and other critical information with the click of a mouse. Partners can also communicate with each other via secured forums and bulletin board postings.

“While the concept of an online group communications resource isn’t new, the recent call for digitization of documents and the on-the-go nature of the healthcare profession has created an urgent demand for a technical resource like MediCom,” said CareTech Solutions WebCare Director Christopher Catallo. “By providing opportunities for physicians and hospital personnel to interact with one another, while supporting their need to access information from multiple locations, MediCom is helping many hospitals and medical groups increase productivity, accuracy and security – without interrupting the group’s dedication to patient care.”

MediCom allows healthcare professionals to communicate more effectively from remote locations, and can be customized through a template-based, database-driven document management system and document repository. Many service options are also available, from complete self-administration by the group to seamless integration and updating through CareTech’s WebCare team, where a group need only furnish raw data.

Benefits of MediCom’s secure, time-saving service include:

  • One centralized online resource, providing permission-based and password-protected access to information through any Internet connection
  • Document retrieval and posting, assuring materials are up-to-date much more easily and quickly than with printed material
  • Simultaneous content review by multiple users
  • Greatly reduced legal liabilities through ready access to medical bulletins and the most recent health care findings – all recordable to demonstrate a user had accessed the information
